Herbal Tinctures & Glycerites
A herbal tincture is a herb extracted and preserved in alcohol, and it's one of the most common herbal preparations. Any alcohol can be used, but it's usually a neutral spirit like vodka.
Herbal glycerites are alcohol-free tinctures (extracts) made with food-grade vegetable glycerine instead of alcohol. They’re a great option for anyone avoiding alcohol for any reason, and they’re an especially popular remedy for children.
For simplicity, I'm including herbal glycerites under tinctures, as any herbal tincture can be made as a glycerite by substituting glycerine for alcohol.
